Research & Development

Binnen het lectoraat werken docent-onderzoekers samen met studenten en partners (bedrijven, organisaties, overheid) aan vraagstukken op het gebied van Data Intelligence in het algemeen en toegepaste artificial intelligence in het bijzonder. Gedegen onderzoek vraagt om een zorgvuldige, systematische en transparante werkwijze, zodat de resultaten verifieerbaar en reproduceerbaar zijn. Het lectoraat werkt daarom volgens de onderzoeksmethode van Hevner: design science research en focust op drie onderzoekslijnen waarover hieronder meer informatie volgt:

AI in de zorg

De rol van kunstmatige intelligentie in de zorg neemt steeds verder toe. Dat is ook hard nodig want de zorgvraag in Nederland groeit de komende jaren alleen maar door (door vergrijzing), terwijl er steeds minder handen zijn die aan het bed kunnen helpen. De onderzoekslijn AI in de zorg van het lectoraat Data Intelligence focust op mensgerichte en AI-gedreven zorginnovaties.

AI in de industrie

De rol van kunstmatige intelligentie in de industrie komt vooral naar voren rondom het opzetten van een duurzame productieketen ofwel circular supply chain. Daarnaast wordt AI ingezet voor proces- en productoptimalisatie. Denk daarbij aan het opzetten van een digitale replica van een productielijn waardoor je beslissingen kunt nemen over de echte productielijn (digital twin), het voorspellen wanneer een machine onderhoud nodig heeft (predictive maintenance) en kijken of producten aan kwaliteitskenmerken voldoen (anomaly detection).

Verantwoorde AI

Kunstmatige intelligentie (ai) is al een belangrijk onderdeel in ons leven. Dat belang neemt alleen maar verder toe. Deskundigen zijn het erover eens dat ai een grote rol gaat spelen op de manier wij onze banen, scholen, gezondheid, rechtspraak, politiek andere hebben ingericht. Dat vergroot het belang om stil te staan bij het gebruik van ai. Kunnen we onze welvaart ermee laten groeien? Kunnen we garanderen dat intelligente systemen doen wat wij willen zonder te crashen of gehackt te worden? Gaan machines onze plaats innemen en is dat erg? Het is volgens velen de belangrijkste discussie van onze tijd.
