Paper prototyping

Goal

To select a concept during early-stage conceptualizing by exploring a variety of different concepts.

What

It is throwaway prototyping and involves creating a paper representation of a digital artefact.

Where

lab, experiment

Who

user, facilitator, observer

How

First think about the goal of your prototype and idea of what you’re trying to design and visualize what the user is expected to do. The next step is to create your tasks and finally create the prototypes. After developing the prototypes it is advised to test the prototypes by users.

Pros

rapid iteration
low cost
early engagement
early feedback

Cons

limited functionality
requires imagination
lack of realism
